Abstract

This session relates to the inevitable rise of medical device use in the patient's home. A good example is the increases in the use of infusion devices assigned to patients after a visit or stay at a hospital. When the patient leaves the hospital and requires an assistive device, eg IV Pump, suction unit, etc, who helps them select the device? What is the role retail pharmacies and home care organizations are playing in the care for the patient using various technologies. Is there a role for Clinical Engineers to participate in this process? The panel will focus on selection and procurement, maintenance and repair, software management, patient safety, and education. Representatives will include Clinical Engineering, an IV systems manufacturer, a pharmacist, an ambulatory care nurse, and a physician.
